I remember when I found out I was pregnant with twins, my mind instantly spiraled. "Two of everything?! We won't have any room!" Given that we live in a small fixer-upper, I was worried about us having room for 2 babies, let alone 2 of everything they need.

Rest assured, multiples of every item is NOT a necessity with multiples! Here is what I learned you do need more of through my research (AKA, scouring POM groups and spending hours online):

  • You definitely need 2 cribs to follow safe sleep guidelines. Some countries, like the UK, are more lenient with this and say it is safe for twins to bed share until they are rolling over. Either way, you will need 2 cribs eventually.

  • You will need extra diapers and wipes. (Did you know it's estimated twins will use 3,440–4,160 diapers in the first year alone?)

  • Extra burp cloths are also a must. You don't want to worry about keeping up with laundry while also raising newborn twins.

  • Extra bedding is a necessity, too, because of the extra crib. You also have double the chance of dealing dealing with blowouts, unfortunately.

  • You 1,000% need two car seats... duh!

  • High chairs/booster seats because there's just no getting around this one, either.

Here are some things you don't need doubles of:

  • Floor seats/Bouncers. I got one bouncer and one infant floor seat that the twins can alternate between as needed. Getting two of these would just take up unnecessary space!

  • Baby bath tub. Some moms say these aren't needed at all, while I beg to differ! Either way, with twins, one bath tub will suffice. Just take turns bathing them.

  • Bassinets. Their are TONS of options to get around the need for two bassinets when you are sharing a room with your twins those first few months, such as the classic Simmons Bedside Bassinet twin moms SWEAR by, or the Baby Trend Retreat Twins Nursery Center. I personally have both; I will use the Simmons Bassinet in my room, and will take the Nursery Center with us on the go - especially when we go see the grandparents!

  • Swings. These are expensive, and if you're buying double, you risk buying 2 swings neither baby will like. I personally didn't get a swing at all, because more often than not, I've seen that the baby DOESN'T like them!

Preparing for a newborn, whether there is 1 or 2, is a stressful endeavor! But if you're expecting multiples, don't let the thought of two of everything stress you out. Also, I encourage you to look at places like Facebook Marketplace for some of the items I mentioned above. You can get tons of twin necessities at DEEP discounts!
